I was glad to be back in Springfield last week following a busy three days in Chicago the prior week for Board of Trustees activities. Dear Faculty and Staff 鈥 The Chancellor鈥檚 Cabinet meeting discussed the university鈥檚 approach to fall convocation, future plans for commencement, and a faculty colleague鈥檚 request that the university could apply for the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching鈥檚 classification as a university for 鈥淟eadership for Public Purpose.鈥 After discussion, the Chancellor invited colleagues to send ideas to her about such a classification, which could enhance the designated and known character of this University. |

Dear Faculty and Staff 鈥 This week began with the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.鈥檚 legacy at the Wyndham Springfield City Centre with an enthusiastic group of citizens. The featured speaker was Dr. Gerald McWorter (introduced by Chancellor Gooch) who spoke about the man, the movement, and the mission associated with King鈥檚 life and legacy. |
