Academic Integrity and Responsible Conduct

Graduate students are expected to be familiar with university policies regarding academic integrity and the responsible conduct of research. All research involving human subjects (including course projects, capstone projects, master’s theses and independent student research) must be formally reviewed and approved before any data are collected.

The Closure Exercise

Master’s degree candidates are required to complete a closure exercise demonstrating mastery of some area within their field of study. Closure exercise options vary across degree programs, and can include theses, applied projects, comprehensive examinations and capstone courses. The exact nature and format of the closure exercise is determined by the academic department offering the degree program; however, all closure requirement options must have an identifiable academic focus and must include a written component.

Academic advising is provided by a full-time faculty member within the department. All graduate students are assigned a faculty advisor by the department upon admission to the degree program. It is very important to know who your assigned academic advisor is and to meet with them regularly. If you do not know who has been assigned as your advisor, please contact the Chairperson of your department.
