WHAT: The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield Astronomy-Physics Program and the UIS Astronomy Interest Group will host a partial solar eclipse watch party. The event is free and open to the public.

WHEN: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14

The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield鈥檚 Center for State Policy and Leadership (CSPL) will discuss the important work it鈥檚 doing to promote the public good during its annual showcase event on Thursday, Sept. 14 in the UIS Student Union Ballroom. The event will begin at 8 a.m. with networking and a breakfast, followed by the program from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

WHAT: The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield will hold three Lunch & Learn Series events this fall. The series is presented by the UIS Alumni SAGE Society and the 缅北禁地 State Historical Society.

The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield will host six Engaged Citizenship Common Experience (ECCE) Speaker Series events during Fall Semester 2023. The series presents events that promote and adhere to the value of engaged citizenship, cultural awareness and respect for diversity.

The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield鈥檚 popular Friday Night Star Parties will resume the Friday after Labor Day and run through the end of October. Those dates include Sept. 8, 15, 22 and 29 and Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27. Friday Night Star Parties are held from 8 to 10 p.m., weather permitting, at the UIS Observatory on the roof of Brookens Library.

The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present 鈥淎 Public Commons,鈥� a project building on UIS' history of being an institution focused on openness, innovation and adaptability. The project recreates 鈥渢he pit,鈥� a popular 1970s Sangamon State University (now UIS) classroom known for its lack of desks and chairs.

WHAT: The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield Campus Recreation Department will hold the eighth annual Prairie Stars 5K run/walk. The race is open to UIS students, faculty, staff and community members.

WHERE: The Recreation and Athletic Center at UIS, 2171 University Drive, Springfield

WHAT: The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield Astronomy-Physics Program, Lincoln Memorial Garden and the Sangamon Astronomical Society will host a special Star Party to view the annual Perseid meteor shower.

WHERE: Lincoln Memorial Garden, 2301 E. Lake Shore Drive, Springfield

The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield Visual Arts Gallery is pleased to present 鈥淕emstones,鈥� a group exhibition that features an accomplished roster of local, regional and national artists that have also served as donors to the gallery. The exhibition will open with a free public reception from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, and will run through Thursday, July 27.
