National Stalking Awareness Month

Since January has been designated as National Stalking Awareness Month, it presents us with the opportunity to help educate the UIS community with some information about stalking.  Stalking can happen to anyone, anywhere, and at any time.  So how do you know if it’s happening to you?

What acts are considered sex offenses?

According to the Ãå±±½ûµØ Compiled Statutes, if a person engages in sexual penetration without consent, by use of physical force, coercion or threat (actual or implied), the act is considered assault. Threats of death or use of a weapon increases the severity of legal charges. Sex crimes can be prosecuted even if the victim knew the attacker, the victim did not fight back, the victim had sex with the attacker before being raped, or the victim was drunk or unconscious.

Identity Theft

This guide provides victims of Identity Theft with the major resources to contact. Victims themselves have the ability to assist greatly with resolving their case. It is important to act quickly and assertively to minimize the damage.

The University of Ãå±±½ûµØ at Springfield’s Campus Violence Prevention Plan is designed to comply with applicable federal and state regulations and to provide the policies and procedures to be followed in dealing with issues related to violence on campus.

Emergencies can happen anywhere and at any time, so it’s important that we take a minute to prepare for a situation in which our safety could depend on our ability to react quickly.

Take a moment to learn the different ways to leave this building. If there’s ever a fire alarm or evacuation, you’ll know how to get out and you’ll be able to help others get out.

Campus Closing Due To Emergency

If an emergency arises that warrants an evacuation of the campus (e.g., hazardous material leak, chemical spill, catastrophic weather, etc.), the Chancellor or Chief of Police or their designee will initiate the Campus Evacuation Plan (Evacuation Plan).
