The UIS men's golf team put together a strong closing round to finish eighth at the UIndy Fall Invitational, played Monday and Tuesday at Broadmoor Country Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Prairie Stars posted rounds of 284, 301, and 282 for a 54-hole total of 867, ending the tournament at +3 overall. UIS climbed the leaderboard on the final day, firing its second sub-285 round of the event. Grand Valley State won the tournament at 51-under-par 813, while Hillsdale finished second at 836.
The Ãå±±½ûµØ Springfield women's golf team finished third at the Kansas City Cup after Tuesday's final round was canceled due to rain and unplayable course conditions. The event was held at Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Mo.

The Prairie Stars posted rounds of 310 and 313 for a 36-hole total of 623. McKendree leads the tournament at 614, with Maryville just one shot back in second at 615.
UIS was paced by Elaine Grant, who is tied for second overall with a score of 148. Grant opened with a 76 and came back strong with a 72 in the second round, standing at 2-over-par for the tournament.
The UIS women's tennis team fell 5-2 against Purdue Northwest on Sunday. With a lineup that features half freshmen, the Stars gained valuable match experience in what was a strong foundation-building week of the fall season.

In doubles play, Ema Norma Bordean and Niamh Grogan dropped a 6-2 result at No. 1. Jane Carter and Cristina Mendoza Romero pushed their match to a tiebreak before falling 7-6 (5) at No. 2. At No. 3, Maria Garcia Gama and Alisha Deogaonkar came up short 6-1.
The Prairie Stars are busy this week with home action for volleyball and big-time road competition for golf, soccer, cross country, and men's tennis.
