Institutional Scholarships
A number of Institutional Scholarships are available through the UIS Music Program. To be eligible for these scholarships, all applicants must fill out theÌýUIS Institutional Scholarship ApplicationÌýon the scholarship website and submit to Financial Assistance byÌýFebruary 15.
Music Facilities
The Music program is located in theÌýVisual and PerformingÌýArts Building, which houses numerousÌýstudent resources, including classrooms equipped with whiteboard technology; a modernÌýmusic technology lab;Ìýinstrument storageÌýfacilities;Ìýpractice roomsÌýwith pianos; the Polly Roesch Rehearsal Room and a Steinway Piano Practice Room.ÌýMusic performancesÌýtake place in the Polly Roesch Rehearsal Room, Studio Theatre, Television Studio and the Sangamon Auditorium.
Individual Music Lessons
The UIS Music program offers Individual Music Lessons for students at the beginning and intermediate/advanced levels. Students may register for MUS 141/341 Instrumental Lessons. Additional fees apply.
Courses
General Education Requirements
Music courses and ensembles fulfill a variety of including Visual, Creative, and Performing Arts; Engaged Citizenship Common Experience; Comparative Societies Humanities; U.S. Communities. No prerequisites.
Flute Choir
The UIS Flute Choir is available to UIS students, faculty and staff, and community members. This small chamber ensemble performs a wide variety of music for flutes including traditional repertoire, new music, and transcriptions. The UIS Flute Choir gives at least one performance each semester.
Cello Choir
The UIS Cello Choir is available to UIS students, faculty and staff, and community members. A small ensemble with between five to ten players, the UIS Cello Choir performs a wide variety of music for several cellos including traditional repertoire, new music, and transcriptions. The UIS Cello Choir gives at least one major performance each semester.
Jazz Ensemble
The UIS Jazz Ensemble is available to UIS students, faculty and staff, and community members. The ensemble performs a wide variety of jazz repertoire including classic standards, new compositions, and innovative arrangements. The Jazz Ensemble gives at least one major performance each semester and often performs in the community.
