Please be advised that the Springfield Fire Department will perform a fire training simulation at the Sunflower 700 BuildingÌý²ú±ð²µ¾±²Ô²Ô¾±²Ô²µÌýTuesday, September 16 and continuing through Friday, September 19.
As part of the training, theatrical smoke will be used to simulate realistic fire conditions. This may be visible in and around the building during the training period.

Thanks to your generosity and spirit, we achieved a record-breaking 55.04% participation rate—the highest in campaign history! Together, we raised $244,939 from 426 employee donors, supporting 111 programs, scholarships, and initiatives that make UIS such a special place to learn, work, and grow.

Registration for the Emiquon Nature Preserve Event is Live! This year's trip will be taking place on October 24, 2025. All permanent Academic Professional and Civil Service employees who have been employed for 6+ months are eligible to participate with supervisory approval. Participants will tour the Therkildsen Field Station and public use areas of the Nature Preserve. If time permits, we will also gather water samples to view in the lab. Guidelines and Instructions for Applying for CSAC Professional Development Funding for FY 2026
The Civil Service Advisory Council (CSAC) is pleased to announce that FY2026 funding has been made available to assist Civil Service Employees (CS) at UIS with professional development.ÌýAny CS employee employed with a 50% (minimum) appointment may apply for up to $1,200 to use toward any aspect of past or future professional development occurring during the 2026 fiscal year (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026).
Renovations will begin on September 8 on the 3rd floor of HSB to create a Centralized Lab Equipment Facility.ÌýRooms 329 and 330 will be transformed into a shared space for housing lab instruments accessible to all labs within HSB. Project completion is expected in February 2026.

Protect yourself and others by getting your flu shot this year! UIS Health Services and the Sangamon County Department of Public Health are offering flu shots to the UIS community from 9 a.m. to noon on Friday, October 24, and Wednesday, November 5, in the UIS Performing Arts Center lobby.
Please ensure you bring your health insurance card with you when arriving. Flu shots are free for those in network with Aetna, Blue Cross, Cigna, Humana, Health Alliance, Meridian, Medicare, Medicaid, Molina, and UnitedHealthcare.
How did you get started in your career field?
In my past life, I worked as a school librarian for ages K through 12. It was there that I learned I had a passion for advising and teaching, which has led me to my current role at UIS as a career advisor.
It is such a great fit for me. I enjoy walking along the journey of students and alumni as they make plans, dream, explore and ponder pathways to careers. This is what it is all about for me.
