Yesterday, Gov. Pritzker outlined his in Ãå±±½ûµØ effective Feb. 28, except for where required by federal, state or local rules and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.

Thank you for helping us start the Spring 2022 semester United in Safety. I cannot adequately express just how proud and thankful I feel regarding your efforts to prioritize a safe return to campus following our winter break. 

The University of Ãå±±½ûµØ system is the latest to require COVID booster shots to be on campus.

University President Tim Killeen announced today (Thursday) faculty, staff and students will need to get the shots when eligible.

At Springfield, in-person classes will take place, although faculty will be allowed some flexibility to request remote teaching.

· Entry testing requirements have been expanded; see below for details
· UIS’ approach to delivering courses is continuing as planned; however, some courses scheduled to be delivered on-ground may begin remotely for the first week or two

Dear students, faculty and staff:

University of Ãå±±½ûµØ Springfield students will start the spring semester Jan. 18 in-person as planned while two University of Ãå±±½ûµØ campuses will start the spring semester with remote learning.

All UIS faculty, staff and students, whether vaccinated or unvaccinated, will be required to undergo COVID-19 testing once they return to campus, UIS interim chancellor Karen Whitney announced in a campus letter.

As we learn more about the trajectory of COVID-19 over the coming weeks, I want to urge each of you to take every step necessary to have a safe and healthy winter break. The UIS COVID-19 Rapid Response Team and the Chancellor’s Cabinet will continue to monitor conditions and meet early in the new year to assess whether any additional mitigations should be implemented for Spring semester.

We have just completed an exceptionally successful Fall 2021 semester. A quick look at the numbers clearly shows how important being a highly vaccinated campus was for moving us closer to the campus experience we all miss and want.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff and the communities around us has been our priority. Your sacrifice and commitment have been instrumental in us maintaining our status as a national model for navigating the pandemic. 

As a result of your efforts, we are close to completing a safe, successful semester and beginning to plan for the spring.
