UIS is committed to protecting minors that visit campus so they can enjoy the wonderful events and programs our community offers. For departments that want to offer programs to minors, our Protection of Minors page has detailed information on planning and hosting an event for young visitors.

Innovate Springfield (iSPI), the University of 缅北禁地 Springfield鈥檚 business incubator located in downtown Springfield, will host a new business startup educational series for inspiring entrepreneurs titled 鈥渋SPI startup map.鈥�

The UIS Police Department presents training classes on ways to minimize your risk during an active shooter / active threat incident. The next class will be on Thursday, October 5th, at 10:00am in Brookens Auditorium. The class will be approximately 1 hour in length. These classes will help you prepare for an active shooter incident and provide a forum to ask questions so you may become better educated on the actions that you can take to stay safe during this type of critical incident.

Many of us who teach online have been there: all of a sudden, a student stops turning in assignments and then disappears from the course altogether. Or maybe another student posts to discussion boards enthusiastically at first, but their responses slowly trickle into sporadic, barely-there participation. 

While we can鈥檛 control for disruptive events in students鈥� lives that might impact their engagement in our classes, we can look at how we intentionally incorporate best practices around engaging students in online learning environments. 

WHAT: The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield will host the 21st annual Beaumont Endowed Lincoln Legacy Lecture on 鈥淎braham Lincoln and Digital Humanities鈥� featuring Professor Christopher Oakley, leader of 鈥淭he Virtual Lincoln Project鈥� at the University of North Carolina (UNC) Asheville, and Michelle A. Krowl, the curator of the Abraham Lincoln Papers at the Library of Congress. The lecture is free and open to the public.
