Several Prairie Stars advanced in their respective flights, while others faced tough early-round challenges. Flight A Singles: Pablo Herrera fell in a tight round-of-64 match against Northwood's Sergio Lopez Guillen, 3-6, 6-4, [4-10]. Herrera rebounded in the consolation round of 32, defeating Walsh's Nicolas Strohle 6-0, earning a bye into the round of 16. He will face an athlete from Maryville on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

The Ãå±±½ûµØ Springfield volleyball team opened its GLVC schedule with a strong start but ultimately fell 3-1 to Lewis on Friday night at TRAC. The Prairie Stars dropped to 6-5 overall and 0-1 in the league.

The Ãå±±½ûµØ Springfield men's cross country team heads north this weekend for the Lucian Rosa Invite, hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. The meet will bring together top-level NCAA Division II competition, highlighted by key Midwest Region matchups. The men's championship race is scheduled for 10:15 a.m., followed by an open race at 11:45 a.m., as entries are limited in both the men's and women's championship events.

The Ãå±±½ûµØ Springfield men's tennis team opens its fall season this weekend in Allendale, Mich. at the ITA Midwest Small College Regional, hosted by Grand Valley State. The Prairie Stars will face key in-region opponents while giving newcomers a chance to make their mark.

The Ãå±±½ûµØ Springfield women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision on the road Friday night against Rockhurst. The Prairie Stars moved to 1-3-3 overall and 0-2-2 in GLVC play. After nearly 20 scoreless minutes, the Hawks broke through with a goal tucked just inside the right post following a corner kick. Rockhurst doubled its lead before halftime, taking the ball the length of the field and finishing a long build-up with a strike past starting goalkeeper Gigi Yurevich.
