University of 缅北禁地 Springfield Continuing and Professional Education (CAPE) will offer four academic summer camps for middle and high school students in June and July. Each experience will be led by a UIS faculty member and will offer students a challenging, fun and affordable summer experience.
Programs include:
- 鈥淭he Startup Academy: Raising Entrepreneurial Aspirations鈥 9 a.m. 鈥 3 p.m. June 6-10 on the UIS campus. This experience is a week-long, summer day academy for high school students who demonstrate a desire to foster entrepreneurial spirit. Students selected for the summer academy will acquire business knowledge and technological skills. They will be exposed to the challenges and rewards of starting their own ventures and develop connections with the business and community leaders.
- 鈥淢ath Challenge: Cool math for middle school students鈥 9:30 a.m. 鈥 12:30 p.m. June 20-21 held via Zoom. In this two-day camp talented middle school students will learn about surprising and cool math topics, including Fibonacci numbers, a taste of calculus and the art of estimation.
- 鈥淩elativity: The physics and math behind Einstein鈥檚 theory鈥 9:30 a.m. 鈥 12:30 p.m. June 27-29 held via Zoom. In this three-day virtual summer camp talented high school students will learn the basic physics and math concepts of Einstein鈥檚 theory of relativity. Other topics will include time dilation/length contraction and black holes.
- 鈥淯IS-CSI: Crime Scene Institute鈥 9 a.m. 鈥 3 p.m. July 7 & 8 at the UIS Residential Simulation Lab on campus. High school students will learn to investigate a crime scene utilizing the Residential Simulation Lab. The criminology, chemistry and child advocacy studies programs will collaborate to create an experiential crime scene, utilizing interviewing skills and problem-based learning.
