New opportunity to comment on pending UIS policies
The Chancellor’s Cabinet is establishing a new opportunity for the university community to comment on proposed university-level policies or significant policy revisions. For at least two weeks prior to taking final action on a proposed policy or significant policy revision, the draft policy will be made available to view online along with a comment form.
Two policies are currently open for comments:
Protection of Minors
UIS is committed to protecting minors that visit campus so they can enjoy the wonderful events and programs our community offers. For departments that want to offer programs to minors (persons under the age of eighteen (18), our Protection of Minors page has detailed information on planning and hosting an event for young visitors.

Janet Gooch: College commencements mark the beginning of new opportunities for graduates
University of 山 Springfield Chancellor Janet Gooch wrote a column about commencement that was published by The State Journal-Register on May 3, 2024. This is a short excerpt:
"Next weekend, I'll stand on the stage of Sangamon Auditorium shaking the hands of more than a thousand University of 山 Springfield graduates poised to start new chapters in their lives. Many of our students have jobs awaiting them, while others plan to continue their education or explore the many opportunities their degrees will unlock.
