Eligibility

Spouse/partner of an active Campus Recreation member.

A spouse is defined as an individual joined in marriage or civil union.

A domestic partner is defined as an unrelated, same-sex individual residing in the same household as the member, with whom they share financial and emotional interdependence consistent with that of a married couple. This arrangement must have existed for at least one year and must be ongoing. The domestic partner must be at least 19 years of age.

Payments can be made by credit or debit card at the TRAC front desk.

Cash and checks are not accepted.
Card information is not stored, so monthly membership payments must be processed in person each month.

Family Membership

Walking Membership

Includes unlimited access to the second-level track and complimentary hand towel service.
This membership does not include access to the locker rooms, fitness area, or arena.

Shower Membership

Includes soap, towel service, and a daily-use lock.
Does not include access to the track, fitness area, or arena.

Multi-Use Pass

How does it work?

Cardholders must present a valid UIS i-card at the front desk.
Upon verification, the pass will be marked for that day's use.
The pass is valid for one year from the date of purchase.
Cardholders receive the same access as Rec Members for TRAC programs and services, with the following exceptions: No extended equipment check-out (e.g., StarBikes)
Not eligible for intramural participation
Cardholders may host guests according to the Guest Policy.

What are the benefits?

Reduced front desk transaction time compared to single-use passes.
Fewer waivers to complete.
12 visits for the price of 10.

Winter Pass

How does it work?

Cardholders must present a valid UIS i-card at the front desk.
Cardholders receive the same access as Rec Members for TRAC programs and services.

What are the benefits?

Reduced front desk transaction time compared to a monthly membership.
4.5 months of access for the price of 3.8 months — a cost-effective option for extended use during the winter season.

Eligibility

Current full-time UIS students are automatically granted membership if they have been assessed the General Fee.

Only students enrolled in on-ground (in-person) classes are assessed the General Fee and are therefore eligible for automatic membership.
Students who request a refund of the General Fee will not have access to Campus Recreation facilities or services unless they purchase a membership.
Online-only students must purchase a membership to use the facility.

Membership fees cannot be charged to a student's account.

Summer Memberships

Students who paid the General Fee during the preceding Spring semester have access to TRAC through the end of May.
Starting in June, all students must pay to use TRAC unless enrolled in on-ground summer classes, which include the General Fee.
Students must have an active membership to check out StarBikes.
Student-athletes may only use the facility without a membership when training with the Strength and Conditioning Coach. Otherwise, standard policies apply.

Classical Karate w/ Shihan Dan

Exercise with Meaning. Do you want to strengthen:

CycleFit w/ Talon

Also known as spin class: CycleFit is a great workout that is a top-notch way to strengthen the entire lower body, while providing a great cardio workout that will leave you out of breath. Combine that with listening and riding to some of your favorite songs and artists from all genres. CycleFit takes you on a journey through hills and sprints, burning calories like it’s nothing along the way.

Intermediate Classical Karate w/ Shihan Dan

Only for those who have reached intermediate level of Classical Karate.

WERQ w/ Cari

Join licensed instructor and brand rep Cari Piper for this wildly addictive workout! WERQ is a fiercely fun dance fitness class based on trending pop and hip-hop music. Expect to SWEAT and burn around 500-900 calories each hour of WERQ! All dance and fitness abilities are welcome. Levels and modifications will be provided - zero experience required!

Yoga w/ Haley

Join Haley for an all-levels yoga class offering standing, balancing, and seated poses with plenty of modifications and props. This class will begin with a warming and heart-opening yang practice to allow energy to flow throughout the body. The second half will focus on yin postures held longer to stretch the connective tissues and help us relax even the deepest layers of the body. This class combines a balance of both movement and stillness, strength and flexibility, and physicality and mindfulness.

Yoga w/ Ira

Unwind and find inner peace with our beginner-friendly yoga class! This class focuses on the fundamentals of yoga, offering a mix of stretching, breathing, and strengthening exercises designed to calm the mind and tone the body. Join us for a relaxing and rejuvenating experience that will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalized. Namaste!

Shihan Dan Barham

Joined the department in 2019.

Teaches: Classical Karate and Intermediate Classical Karate

�山��: Shihan Dan began training in 1992 at Bradley University under the guidance of Dr. June Pilcher. After graduating in 1997, he started leading Karatedo Doshinkan classes, eventually establishing himself in the St. Louis area, where he also taught high school English. In 2004, he traveled to Austria and Germany for his first week-long Summer Training and had the opportunity to train at the honbu dojo with Sanshi. He has since attended three other week-long Summer Training camps, for a total of six over the years. He was honored when Hanshi Nobuo awarded him the title Renshi in 2005 and Shihan in 2018; except for his wife and sons, it is what he is most proud of. Since 1992, Shihan Dan has trained with Hanshi whenever possible. Doshinkan remains one of the most meaningful and guiding forces in his life.

Ira Joshi

Joined the department in 2023.

Teaches: Yoga

�山��: Ira is a student at UIS majoring in Legal Studies and a member of the women’s golf team. She teaches yoga classes at UIS and also works at the Center for Online Learning, Research, and Service. Her fitness classes focus on connecting the body, mind, and breath, incorporating techniques that promote strength, flexibility, relaxation, and meditation.

Cari Piper

Joined the department in 2023.

Teaches: WERQ

�山��: Cari has been a fitness instructor in the Springfield area since 2010. She has taught a variety of dance fitness formats and strength training classes and became licensed to teach WERQ Dance Fitness in 2019. In 2022, Cari was honored to be voted the State Journal-Register’s Best Fitness Instructor of the Year. Outside of fitness, she is a licensed clinical social worker specializing in child welfare. Cari loves the grit of hip-hop and the intensity of pop choreography, and she can’t wait to help you find your own favorites!

Haley Simpson

Joined the department in 2023.

Teaches: Yoga

�山��: Haley has been practicing yoga since 2013 and completed her 200-hour teaching certification at Jax Yoga in Jacksonville. She enjoys incorporating creative sequences, thoughtful intentions, and a sense of humor into her classes. Outside of yoga, Haley enjoys spending time in nature, knitting, sewing, and cooking.

Talon Tapscott

Joined the department in 2017.

Teaches: CycleFit

�山��: Talon is a Certified CycleFit Instructor with a passion for helping others. This is something he discovered through group fitness, following in the footsteps of his instructor parents. He has been racing BMX since the age of 7 and has earned multiple state championships as well as a national title.
