Chancellor's Thinkers Series- A Call to Think: We’re All in This Together

Mylas Copeland is an extraordinary community leader in Springfield, known for his deep commitment to service and active involvement across several organizations through board leadership. This conversation between the Chancellor and Mylas will center on servant and authentic leadership, exploring what motivates him to give back so consistently and generously. The goal will be to anchor the dialogue in the spirit of, “We’re All In This Together,” a mindset Mylas exemplifies through his work and presence in the community.

This event is free and open to the public.

A Call to Think: Enduring Legacy of Lincoln

Jacob Friefeld and Chancellor Gooch will engage in a powerful conversation about the enduring legacy of President Abraham Lincoln. As Director of the Center for Lincoln Studies, Dr. Friefeld is uniquely positioned to guide us through Lincoln’s life, leadership, and the ways he was perceived in his time. They will explore the relevance of Lincoln’s principles today and will draw meaningful connections and parallels to our current societal landscape. The conversation will also invite us to reflect on how Lincoln might lead, respond or advise us in navigating today’s complex challenges.

Join NPR �山�� and Sangamon Experience for a special evening that celebrates 50 years of public radio at the University of �山�� Springfield. Special guest Michel Martin from NPR's Morning Edition will be on hand as we open an exhibit that chronicles the first half-century of the station's history. "Radio That Listens to You: 50 Years of NPR �山��" will explore the hardships and joys of keeping local news reporting alive.

The exhibit opening will take place at Lincoln Library in downtown Springfield, and will be followed by a cocktail hour at First Presbyterian Church right across the street from the library. Register by September 15th to take part in this unforgettable night!

The �山�� Innocence Project is pleased to present "Stories of Justice: An Evening with Amanda Knox" on September 24, 2025 at the Union League Club of Chicago. Amanda will read from her newest book, FREE: My Search for Meaning and share her journey to reclaim her identity after spending 4 years in an Italian prison and enduring 8 years on trial for a murder she did not commit. Following the reading, there will be a panel discussion with Amanda and clients the �山�� Innocence Project has helped exonerate and/or release.

Please join us on September 16th for a discussion on "Raising Politically Engaged Kids." Panelists will include Dr. Lindsey Cormack, author of How to Raise a Citizen, State Senator Doris Turner, Springfield City Alderman Shawn Gregory, and Dr. Terrance Jordan, Director of School Leadership and Family & Community Engagement for District 186.
