Various food and toiletry items donated by area grocers and individual donors are available to guests daily so that they may prepare meals at home in addition to their provided meal at the Breadline. Items often include fresh produce, whole meats, breads, non-perishable food items, and USDA/TFAP foods, etc. The pantry is open during service hours and there is no item limit. Guests are encouraged to take what they need.

The Campus Behavioral Intervention Team (CBIT)

CBIT Mission Statement

The Campus Behavioral Intervention Team (CBIT) is a multi-departmental team which coordinates developmental early interventions to support individual student success and promote the safety and welfare of the overall campus community at the University of �山�� Springfield.

CBIT Function

CBIT includes representatives from UIS Police, Office of Disabilities Services, Department of Residence Life, The Diversity Center, Academic Affairs, University Counseling Services and the Dean of Students Office. These representatives work collaboratively to review reports of concern from community members, evaluate the level of risk and identify the appropriate action to support students and others in the affected community. Such actions might include outreach from a CBIT member or collaboration with other campus partners to provide a response to the referral. The following week, an update is provided as appropriate and possible additional recommendations to support the student in the future.

Please note CBIT should not be confused with crisis management in which there is an immediate risk of harm to self or others. UIS employs certified police officers, who should be contacted in the event of an emergency or when an immediate response is needed (217-206-7777).

The Believer's of Springfield main goal is to reach students of other religions and have encouraging bible studies once a week. We want to uplift students and teach them the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, we want to reach out with love.

Campus Movement

Campus Movement exists to help college students grow in their relationship with God! We do this by hosting fun events, having bible studies on campus, our Sunday Night Prayer meeting, and much more!

Catholic Student Organization

Catholic Student Organization (CSO) is a Catholic Christian club. We host weekly socials, rosary, and bible studies. We look forward to helping anyone grow closer to Christ by accompanying them in their faith journey.

Student Grievance Code – The Code covers a grievance brought by a student against another member of the Campus community.

Students – Designate a “Primary Contact if Missing” – The Clery Act contains certain requirements related to students who have been determined to be missing more than 24 hours. One of these requirements included providing all students with an opportunity to name an emergency contact that is specifically related to and used when a student has been determined to be missing. This is separate from your normal emergency contact. I encourage you to identify a contact for this purpose.All active UIS Students can designate a “Primary Contact if Missing “ individual by following the instructions noted below. Designating a “Primary Contact if Missing” via Student Self-Service:

Whether you are a brand new parent or have been at it for a while — whether you are a long-time Springfield resident or are new to the area — we know that having access to resources is invaluable. Below please find links to various area agencies and organizations who are committed to offering assistance to families.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center provides counseling, outreach and psychological consultation to UIS students.

Cox Children Center

Cox Children Center is available on campus for infants starting at age 6 weeks to 12 years of age, and school buses transport children from campus within the Ball Chatham School District.

Family Housing

Family Housing is available at UIS to enrolled students or visiting scholars who will be residing with their legal spouse (a copy of a marriage license is required at time of submission of application/contract), a domestic partner (submission of required documentation must occur at time of submission of application/contract as outlined below), and/or legally dependent children (submission of copies of birth certificates/proof of legal guardianship at time of submission of application/contract required).

Lactation Room

UIS provides lactation rooms in PAC 491/492, and Student Affairs Building, Room 11 to support nursing parents returning to work, school, or campus. Any nursing parent who is a UIS community member (faculty, staff, student, contract employee) or their spouse or same or opposite sex partner can use any of the lactation rooms. PAC 491 and PAC 492, have locks that lock from the inside and indicate whether are vacant or in use. The rooms offer a clean, secure, and private space for those who need to express breast milk during their time on campus. Each room is equipped with comfortable seating, a table, ample electrical outlets near the chair, and a refrigerator. We recommend that you bring a small cooler to store your breast milk. UIS is not responsible for the security or integrity of breast milk stored in or outside of the lactation room refrigerator.

Mind, Body and Spirit

Mind, Body and Spirit @ The TRAC – You have control over your physical, mental and emotional health. We provide comprehensive professional health care and counseling services as well as preventative services and resource. A state-of-the-art wellness and recreation facility, TRAC houses multiple indoor sport and fitness venues including basketball and volleyball courts, an elevated running track, cardio and weight training areas and a multi-purpose exercise room. TRAC staff provide a variety of wellness programs for students, faculty and staff including group fitness classes (like strength and cardio training, Pilates, yoga, martial arts and dance), intramural sports programs and even personal training services.

UIS Cares

UIS Cares is an initiative dedicated to making sure that every UIS student has what they need to earn a University of �山�� degree in a timely fashion. UIS Cares can help bridge this gap and provide students with the fuel needed for their academic success. The Food Pantry is available for all currently enrolled students. Can I bring my child to class?

There is no university policy regarding students bringing children to class. Since each instructor makes his/her own decisions about how to manage the classroom, asking the question at the start of the course is the best way to learn your professor’s preference.

What do I need to do if I need to miss class due to an emergency situation?

Individual instructors hold the authority when it comes to excusing absences and permitting make-up work. Each course’s syllabus should give you an idea as to how absences are handled; informing yourself at the start of the semester is important so that you will know what steps you need to take should an emergency arise. We recommend that you contact your professor as soon as you are aware of a situation that will cause you to miss class.

What if I need to take some time off from my academic program?

Graduate Students

For information on the withdrawing for the semester as well as taking a leave of absence contact the Graduate College.

Undergraduate Students

There is no leave policy for undergrads. But students may withdraw from the semester. Each college has polices about the number of semesters students can be away before they will need to re-apply to the college and or university. Contact your College office for more details.

Student-Parents at UIS – �山��

Many college students today are what used to be considered “nontraditional”: working adults who often have family care responsibilities. Research shows that 26 percent of undergraduate college students have children. To substantially improve the rates of postsecondary credential attainment, which is crucial to increasing access to good jobs, colleges must recognize the need for supports and tailor them to college students with children. Recent research shows that even though the number of students with children on campus has been steadily increasing, the number of campuses with child care supports has declined.

Supporting students with children is also a critical component of promoting racial and ethnic equity in education, as rates of parenthood vary substantially by race and ethnicity.

Student Parent Success Initiative focuses on supporting students with dependent children who are pursuing college. The project involves research, tool-building, technical assistance, public education, and networking with advocates, policymakers, and practitioners invested in the success of student parents in postsecondary education.
