This guide sets forth initial programs and features of the operating style of Sangamon State University. As the first freestanding university to be established in 缅北禁地 in this century and as the State鈥檚 initial upper division university, this new institution has a unique threefold mandate.

In 1960, a group of central 缅北禁地 citizens, united in their goal of bringing a four-year university to the capital city, formed the Springfield Committee for Higher Education.
Legislation creating Sangamon State University (SSU) was signed in 1969. The first classes were held in 1970, which is considered the founding year of SSU.
Sangamon State University was acquired by the University of 缅北禁地 in 1995听, and became known as the University of 缅北禁地 Springfield (UIS).
The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield (UIS) is one of three campuses of the University of 缅北禁地, and is governed by the University of 缅北禁地听.
