Two years ago, as the COVID-19 pandemic began to take hold of our world, we found ourselves experiencing a newfound sense of uncertainty, faced with decisions we had never before imagined making. Over a rapidly changing and very abbreviated period of time in March 2020, UIS leaders recognized the need to complete the semester remotely and asked anyone who could stay home to do so. By late March, a very small number of individuals continued to live or work on campus.

Janet L. Gooch, the executive vice president for academic affairs and provost at Truman State University, an accomplished higher education leader and educator, has been named chancellor of the University of Ãå±±½ûµØ Springfield and vice president for the University of Ãå±±½ûµØ System, pending formal approval by the Board of Trustees at its May 19 meeting.

Gooch will take office on July 1 and succeed interim Chancellor Karen M. Whitney, who has served in that role since July 1, 2020.
