In a weight conscious society, some people strive to reach an unrealistic body image, as promoted by the media and fashion industry. Eating disorders have also become a growing concern on college campuses. Sometimes the steps that people take to lose weight, when taken to extremes, can cause serious health concerns and can even be fatal. If you think that you or someone you know has an eating disorder, please stop by the Counseling Center for help.

Bullying

 is not just kids being kids. Bullying involves isolation, humiliation and persecution. A large percent of bullying occurs in front of people. By publicly dominating the victim and demonstrating their lack of social support, the bully establishes a 鈥渞ight鈥 to torment them. Once that happens, it reduces the chance that anyone will step forward to help the victim.

Assertiveness involves standing up for one鈥檚 rights or expressing one鈥檚 feelings, opinions, and preferences in a way that is honest, direct and appropriate. It involves respecting your own rights as well as the rights of others. Many types of situations require assertiveness, including: making a request; granting or refusing a request; and giving or accepting a compliment.

Most people experience feelings of anxiety before an important event such as a big exam, business presentation or first date. Anxiety disorders; however, are illnesses that fill people鈥檚 lives with overwhelming anxiety and fear that is chronic, unremitting and can grow progressively worse.

What is the e-CHUG?

The e-CHUG (electronic Check-Up to Go) is an interactive web survey that allows college and university students to enter information about their drinking patterns and receive feedback about their use of alcohol.
