I鈥檓 following up on the Chancellor鈥檚 email to UIS students this morning to ask that you encourage students in your classes to participate in this brief student satisfaction survey. The survey opened today, March 22, and closes April 14.

WHAT?

On Wednesday, March 22 all enrolled students received an e-mail link to a survey from Chancellor Gooch.

Multiple consultations were held regarding the Huron Consultants鈥� report and the Union鈥檚 recommendations on that report. The final recommendations from Academic Affairs have been made to the Chancellor, and she will announce the University鈥檚 approach to salary adjustments to faculty on Monday.

This afternoon, I will meet with members of the Union to discuss the University鈥檚 final decision.

This was a short week for me here on the UIS campus. I was at home in Michigan on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for personal business and routine appointments. Other than meetings on Monday about graduate assistantships, enrollment, and review of tenure and promotion files, it was a day with few surprises. At the Chancellor鈥檚 cabinet, topics discussed included: student survey regarding graduation, institutional effectiveness and assessment, and audit controls regarding operational deficits.

This week had notable recognitions occur: three UIS professors were selected for the COPLAC Beard Leadership program 鈥� Associate Professor Shipra Gupta, CBM; Tih-Fen Ting, Associate Professor, CHST; and Associate Professor Magic Wade, CPAE. These colleagues will participate in a series of virtual leadership workshops this Spring followed by an intensive in-person event.

Three University of 缅北禁地 Springfield faculty have been accepted into the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC) Beard Leadership Circle to foster strong leadership connections among peers and help faculty progress in their professional goals.

On February 16, at halftime of the men鈥檚 basketball game, student-athletes who have achieved a 3.4 or higher GPA will be recognized and honored. The seniors in this group will be escorted by a faculty member who has been influential at UIS.  It would be wonderful if faculty members could be in attendance to witness this student-athlete recognition. Game time is 7:30 pm Thursday.

The Chancellor鈥檚 Cabinet meeting discussed the university鈥檚 approach to fall convocation, future plans for commencement, and a faculty colleague鈥檚 request that the university could apply for the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching鈥檚 classification as a university for 鈥淟eadership for Public Purpose.鈥�  After discussion, the Chancellor invited colleagues to send ideas to her about such a classification, which could enhance the designated and known character of this University.
