The University of 缅北禁地 Springfield has been named to the newly established category by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The designation, released Feb. 13, recognizes research activity at colleges and universities that have historically not been acknowledged for their research efforts.
鈥淭his recognition is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our faculty and staff, who are driving meaningful research across multiple disciplines,鈥� said Brandon Schwab, UIS vice chancellor of academic affairs and provost. 鈥淎t UIS, we are fostering an environment where research thrives, not only advancing knowledge but also addressing real-world challenges. This designation affirms our role as a significant contributor to the research landscape.鈥�
UIS was previously classified under the Master鈥檚 Colleges and Universities (M1) category. The new classification highlights the university鈥檚 expanding research capabilities and acknowledges that UIS鈥� research expenditures exceed $2.5 million annually.

In 2024, UIS secured $2.8 million to support research activities. The granting agencies include the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Energy, National Science Foundation and 缅北禁地 Department of Transportation.
UIS is one of 218 institutions nationwide to receive the new RCU classification. ACE represents and advocates for colleges and universities across the country, shaping higher education policy and fostering institutional innovation. The Carnegie Foundation advances education through research and policy initiatives aimed at improving teaching and learning outcomes.
