Sort Squad Week - Because Cans Don't Organize Themselves

Trick or Treat for Canned Goods is an incredible event — which produces a mountain of food that needs sorting. And by mountain, we mean roughly 10,000 lbs of canned goods! Help turn these donations into impact! During Sort Squad Week, volunteers will sort and organize all the collected food for the UISCares Food Pantry

We have a 3-hour window for Sort Squad volunteering, and you’re welcome to come whenever you can during that time. We recommend staying for at least an hour, but we totally understand busy schedules — come late, leave early, pop in between classes — we’re just glad to have your help!

All attendee's will be entered into a drawing to win $30 Amazon Gift Cards! The more you help - the more entries you get.

What to Expect:

  • Light to moderate physical activity – you’ll be on your feet for most of your shift.

  • Lifting and moving canned goods/boxes – typically under 25 lbs. (heavier items can be team-lifted).

  • Sorting, organizing, and stacking food – think Tetris, but with soup cans.

  • Bending, reaching, and possibly some squatting – comfy clothes and closed-toe shoes are a must.

  • Breaks and snacks provided – we know sorting fuel is important!

To request accommodations, please contact us at least 48 hours prior to your event start time.
