Overview

This 4-week, instructor-led course is designed to lead you through the process of creating Open Educational Resources, and sharing them with others.

Learners who complete this course have the opportunity to earn the Open Educational Resources for Instruction Certificate.

Outcomes

As a result of completing course activities and assignments, participants will:

  • Describe ideas for remixing and creating new OER content based on instructional and student needs.
  • Evaluate and select OER to remix.
  • Identify appropriate Creative Commons licenses for different kinds of content. 
  • Identify the main steps involved in the production of OER.
  • Draft a mini-grant proposal for adapting or creating OER for the classroom.
  • Identify an OER that you created or plan to create to share and publish for your students, colleagues, and the general education community.
  • Determine the platform for publishing the OER so that it is available and reusable by colleagues, students, and the general education community.
  • Consider the pros and cons of using the selected platform for publishing your OER.
  • Describe appropriate practices and procedures for publishing your OER.
  • Reflect on course experiences and plans for OER applications.

You must complete the following courses to be eligible for the OER professional certificate:

  • Foundations of Open Education Resources
  • Using Open Education Resources to Support Instruction
  • Creating and Sharing OERs for Online Learning

In addition, you must successfully complete one of the following electives:

  • Universal Design Principles for Online Learning
  • Instructional Design for Online Course Development
