Overview
This course is a 4-week, instructor-led course. AI has the potential to be a valuable tool in education. AI can serve as a tool to help students improve their communication and language skills. Through interactions with the model, students can practice writing and speak more effectively, and learn how to communicate more clearly. The course will help participants become familiar with the technology and be able to evaluate its effectiveness and risks.
Outcomes
As a result of completing course activities and interacting in discussion forums, participants will:
- Describe basic concepts of AI and machine learning, and how they can be applied in educational settings.
- Recall different types of AI applications in education, such as intelligent tutoring systems, personalized learning, adaptive learning systems, and natural language processing.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of AI in education, and assess its impact on student learning and outcomes.
- Describe potential limitations and challenges of using AI in education, such as the risk of reinforcing biases and the need for ongoing monitoring and evaluation.
- Discuss ethical considerations and potential risks associated with using ChatGPT, such as plagiarism and the need to attribute sources appropriately.
- Consider ethical and legal concerns associated with using AI-powered plagiarism detection tools, including the need to protect student privacy and to interpret the results accurately.
- Incorporate the use of AI-powered plagiarism detection tools into academic integrity policies and practices, and how to communicate these to students
- Evaluate application of AI both within and outside of education and the implications for the future
